Description

Job Overview

WAMC Northeast Public Radio is seeking a dynamic live show editor. The person in this role is responsible for shaping, refining, and delivering high-quality written and audio content across live broadcasts and digital platforms. This position combines sharp editorial judgment with real-time production support, ensuring all content is clear, accurate, engaging, and deadline ready.

The ideal candidate is an exceptional writer and editor with a deep understanding of audio storytelling, live show workflows, and digital publishing. They thrive in fast-paced environments, can turn around clean copy quickly, and ensure consistency and polish across every piece of content.

This is also a leadership role. The Senior Editor supervises junior production staff, sets the editorial standard for the team, and serves as a key editorial partner to the Executive Producer. We"re looking for someone with serious live production experience, genuine curiosity about books and ideas, deep roots in or connection to this region, and the steadiness to lead a team through the pressure of daily broadcast.

Responsibilities and Duties

Editorial Leadership

  •          Edit scripts, rundowns, and segment copy for live shows, newscasts, and podcasts
  •          Ensure factual accuracy, editorial clarity, and consistent voice across all written and audio content
  •          Collaborate with producers and hosts to refine scripts and adjust content during live or breaking coverage
  •          Own the daily broadcast: generate and pitch story ideas, work with the host to build the run-of-show, help write prep and scripts, book guests, and monitor live execution in real time
  •          Identify and cultivate recurring contributors—regional experts, and community voices who bring depth and consistency to the program
  •          Conduct in-depth interviews and host as needed
  •          Edit, mix, and distribute recorded interviews to professional public radio standards
  •          Pitch and appear on-air during fund drives as needed
  •          Assist in the construction of fund drive clocks and programming schedules
  •          Fill in as host on The Roundtable and Vox Pop as needed
  •          Collaborate with On the Road team for Roundtable and other remote broadcasts, tapings, and events
  •      Serve as a first point of escalation for editorial questions, production challenges, and day-of logistics
  •        Collaborate with the EP on workflow design, editorial priorities, and staffing across both shows

Qualifications

  •        4+ years of experience producing a daily live radio show, broadcast news program, or equivalent. Public radio experience strongly preferred
  •          Demonstrated experience supervising or mentoring junior production staff
  •          Genuine love of culture—and the ability to turn that enthusiasm into compelling radio
  •          Strong editorial judgment across both fast-turnaround news and longer-form interview formats
  •          Genuine roots in or deep familiarity with the Capital Region, Hudson Valley, Adirondacks, Vermont, Connecticut, and/or the Berkshires. You don"t need to have grown up here—but you need to care about this place specifically
  •          Exceptional composure and time management under the daily pressure of live production
  •          Experience booking guests and building relationships with publicists, literary agents, community organizations, and other professionals
  •          Commitment to telling stories from communities that public radio has historically underserved—including younger listeners, communities of color, working-class and rural voices across our coverage area
  •          Excellent communication skills; able to give clear, actionable feedback to staff and communicate crisply with hosts and engineers during live air
  •          Bachelor"s degree in Journalism, Media Studies, English, or a related field—or equivalent hands-on experience. We will not penalize non-traditional paths
