To Whom It May Concern,
My name is Alexis Cory. I currently work as a reporter for the Galesburg Broadcasting Company in Galesburg Illinois. I am a general assignment reporter and midday anchor for WGIL1400 AM. I cover several city councils and school boards as well as other committees and commissions in the City of Galesburg. I’m also responsible for the midday newscasts that are live from 11 am to noon, everyday. Our format consists of local and state content. Each local story has six different versions, three with sound and three headlines. The tops of the hour newscasts have sound in them where the bottoms are all headlines. I am also responsible for the newscast on our three FM stations. Those are made up of local, state and national news and broadcast throughout the day.
I was recently awarded the 2013 Associate Press Best Spot News for Small Market Radio for my coverage of a house fire in Abingdon Illinois. Covering live events as they happen is also part of my job, and over the past two years I’ve covered fires, building collapse, accidents, and even parades. Covering live on the spot news is my strongest attribute and I have no issue going off script or having to write a story on the fly.
I graduated from Illinois State University in 2006 with a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, and in 2007 I graduated from the University of Illinois at Springfield earning my Masters from their Public Affairs Program. I really enjoy public affairs and human-interest pieces. Being able to tell other people’s stories is why I became a journalist. I am looking to broaden my horizons and find work that is more challenging in a market that’s much bigger than Galesburg.
I am looking for my next challenge, and a place where I can continue to grow and learn. Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you in the future.
Attached you will find a copy of my resume and a link to my website with samples of my work.
